Lady And The Tramp Rewatched With An Espresso Martini

Walt Disney almost cut the spaghetti scene. Let that sink in, because that single choice shaped one of the most recognizable romance moments in animation history. We’re Cheers to Ears, and we’re pairing a themed drink with a full, honest rewatch of Lady and the Tramp, comparing the 1955 animated classic with the 2019 Disney Plus live action remake that quietly became one of our favorite surprises.
First, we clink glasses with an espresso martini inspired by Tony’s Town Square Restaurant at Magic Kingdom, then we get into the fun details: cocker spaniels, Joe Grant’s original sketches, CinemaScope, and the little bits of Disney history that make the film feel bigger than its runtime. We also talk about why the movie looks “newer” than people expect for a 1950s release, and why the themes still hold up when the story stays focused on loyalty and belonging.
From there, we jump to the 2019 remake: real rescue dogs, a New Orleans vibe, sharper comedy, and character updates that modernize the relationships without turning the movie into something unrecognizable. We don’t dodge the tricky parts either, including the “Siamese cats” moment and how the remake reworks that scene in a way that actually works. Plus: Ken Jeong’s doctor cameo, a spaghetti dinner scene that feels even more heartfelt, and a dog catcher who behaves like he’s running a 24/7 investigation.
If you love Disney movies, Disney live action remakes, or just want a smart, funny Lady and the Tramp review, hit play, then subscribe, share the show with a Disney friend, and leave us a review. What’s your vote: 1955 or 2019?
Cold Open And Toasts
SPEAKER_01Today we talk all things lady and the tramp. Welcome to Cheers to Ears. We're gonna click our drinks. We're gonna toast our ears. We're gonna toast Disney. And get our cheers to it. Cheers to it. Okay, we're
Testing A DIY Espresso Martini
SPEAKER_01back. Hello, everybody. We're having a beverage. Having a beverage, and it's an espresso martini today. The Disney version is sold at Tony's, what is it called? Tony's Old Town, Old Square Restaurant. What's it called? I don't know if it hasn't. Tony's Old Town Tavern. Tony's Town Square Restaurant is the official name. There's some editing they're gonna do. That was bumbling. I forgot the name of it already. But we're having espresso martini sold there, and uh, I got out of my gourd with that one. And it's at the restaurant. It's sold with Grangers, Deluxe, Organic Vanilla vodka, Tia Maria Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur, Bulls Cream de Cocoa, White Liqueur, and Espresso, and it sold for $17.50. But we did none of that today, Aaron. Nope. None of that. We went rogue. We went rogue. We used the amazing machine. The Bartesian.
SPEAKER_00The Bartesian. And served in Bartesian glasses.
SPEAKER_01This is a Bartesian glass.
SPEAKER_00I didn't realize that. Which the camera can't pick up.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, when you buy a Bartesian machine and you have a like a membership, you get like discounts on all the barware, all the uh all the accoutrements. And so we we've gathered many of those over the day.
SPEAKER_00Gathered.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. My wife, Christy, is a OG Bartesian owner. We've had one a few years now.
SPEAKER_00And uh Yeah, it was it's getting pretty well known. We when did we because you had it before we first started talking about uh doing this? Doing this uh when I came over and we just hung out there.
SPEAKER_01It was pretty new then a couple years ago.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, two and a half years ago, I think because it was after I took that solo trip that I had you book for me.
SPEAKER_01Oh, right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. Wow. My Disney World solo trip.
SPEAKER_01That's crazy, that's crazy. So this is made just with a pod. Yep. We stick in the espresso machine or the espresso machine, the curig, the Bartesian machine, which Keurig, yeah. And then you just push the buttons, it's all on screen. We made this a little different than I ever made it before. It turned out a little bit more watery than usual. Yeah, but we used a mock tail version, gave it a good shake, and then added our vodka to the glass first and then poured it over.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we did veil vanilla vodka. We added a shot of that. Right. It's a bit watery, bit watery.
SPEAKER_01It's a lot stronger if you have it with the vodka in the machine. Oh, is it? Yeah, you don't taste that water taste is gone. I think the mocktail added more water to compensate because it thought it was a mock tail. Okay, and it was trying to make a bigger drink. Oh, I see. That's what I'm thinking. I've never made a mock tail with it, I don't think. Well that's a butt, that's the most unused button on our machine.
SPEAKER_00So, not bad. I think the cold brew martini we had way back when was definitely better. Right. That was actually very good. That was a top five drink for that first year. Yes. This is definitely not a top five drink, and it's I think it's because we experimented a little bit. Yeah, we probably shouldn't have. I don't think it's an issue with the Bartesian or with anything else. I think it was because we experimented.
SPEAKER_01We might make another one after we're all done recording. Yeah. And just share one. Yeah, just to try it out. Just to try it out so you can see what it tastes like without we have mini pods. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And I thought about going because we had most of the ingredients that we had. The only thing we needed was the white chocolate liqueur. Uh-huh. And they actually sell minis of that at Total Wine, which is where I do most of my alcohol purchases.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so let me let me butt
Pitching Bartesian As A Sponsor
SPEAKER_01in here. Okay. Let's talk about Bartesian so far and Total Wine.
SPEAKER_00Both need to be sponsored of our show.
SPEAKER_01We give you guys so much business. We do.
SPEAKER_00Just look at the amount of points I've got at Total Wine.
SPEAKER_01But why would they be our sponsor anyway? Because we still are gonna spend the money for us personally, but we're gonna talk about them anyway, because we're gonna talk about them anyway.
SPEAKER_00Actually, what we need our listeners to do, please do this, listeners. Go to Bartesian on their social media or email them directly. And I've already emailed them directly about this, but go to their social media however you want to contact them. Contact Bartesian and tell them that they need to partner with Disney and create some of the iconic Disney drinks in the parks. They need to do those pods. And tag cheers to ears. And tag cheers to ears. That'd be amazing. You got this idea. Yeah, I think actually, I think we need to do this commer as a commercial so it plays on every single episode that anybody ever listens to. They've got to hear us telling them tag Barthiji.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna make a commercial for a non-sponsor. For a non-sponsor. Is that desperation? Or I don't know what that is. Well, we're not desperate though. Even if we gotta buy them, there's zero desperation going on.
SPEAKER_00How much there's eight eight pods in a box when you buy them?
SPEAKER_01I think so.
SPEAKER_00And they're about 15 bucks or something like that. 17 something. Okay, I just want them to make them. Even if we gotta buy them, I still want them to make them. So mix it up, some uh Galaxy's Edge drinks, some Polynesian, just wherever. But we need those drinks.
SPEAKER_01And if you're at Tony's Town Square restaurant, because I just wanted to say it once perfectly, I've got my screen up there so I wouldn't mess it up. I don't know why I forget little things like that. If you're at Tony's Town Square restaurant, try an espresso martini. Yeah, they're very good. And we're having this drink today from this restaurant because it's a little Italian restaurant at Magic Kingdom.
SPEAKER_00It's the only thing themed after our topic.
Setting Up Lady And The Tramp
SPEAKER_00Right. And we're talking Lady in the Tramp today. Both the 1955 animated version and the 2019 live action version. Right. We watched them both.
SPEAKER_01So do you want to do you want to start with the 55 version and talk about it? How do you want to work this out?
SPEAKER_00All mixed up here. Okay. I've got some mixed in. I started mostly with the 1955. Interesting fact.
1955 Trivia And Behind The Scenes
SPEAKER_00Okay. I'll start off with an interesting fact. Okay. Cocker spaniels were the most popular breed of dog in the 1940s. Oh. So right after they were a really popular dog, which is what I figured that they were a really popular dog, which is why they had Lady be a cocker spaniel in the movie.
SPEAKER_01Why? I'll tell you exactly why Lady's a cocker spaniel in the movie. Why? It's a Disney sketch artist, Joe Grant. Had a cocker? He had a cocker spaniel at home, and he was sitting around watching how his dog was behaving towards their newborn child. Uh-huh. And he started sketching the dog. Interesting. So this is a movie's completely Disney. Uh-huh. There's no previous story or anything behind it. This is all from Joe Grant's sketch. This movie started to be created. So we had a cocker spaniel at home named Lady. Interesting. That's an interesting tidbit, isn't it? A little, yeah. Yeah, I kind of dove deep a little deep into this. A little tidbit there. Right.
SPEAKER_00So mine, other than that, I have comments on the movie. I don't really have any. The only other interesting thing I came across. Alan Reed, who was the voice of Fred Flintstone. He voiced Boris, the big greyhound looking dog at the pound.
SPEAKER_01I'll have to listen to that again to see if can you tell the saying to watch it with that?
SPEAKER_00It's like Fred Flintstone, but with a Russian accent. Really? Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. That's interesting. Yeah. That's I have a few other interesting facts about this.
SPEAKER_00Okay, go ahead.
SPEAKER_01Here's some of these. Okay, then. Because the first one was great. Oh, thank you. This isn't as great. It's this is easy look up. It's Disney's 15th animated film. Okay. Is Lay in the Tramp. The puppy in the hat box at the beginning of the movie was inspired by Walt Disney himself as he gave a I forgot what kind of was it a pug? What kind of dog was it? I read the kind of dog too. I didn't write it down. He gave his wife Lillian a puppy in a box.
SPEAKER_00I think it was a pug.
SPEAKER_01Was it a pug? I think so. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Because I think I've heard that story.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that inspired the that scene. Oh. Also. Let me see. The spaghetti scene. Uh-huh. Walt Disney wanted it cut from the movie. He thought it was silly and messy looking. Really? He didn't like it. The most iconic scene. He was talked into it by the writers and directors, and it stayed in the movie. So you go, Walt. He got talked out of it. And then Peggy Lee. Yes. Famous, famous for her hit Fever. Yes. She wrote four songs in the movie, or several songs in the movie. Uh-huh. And voiced four characters.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Which is that's interesting. M and Peg, and what was the other one?
SPEAKER_01It was what I forgot.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the both. They read them.
SPEAKER_01So that was an interesting tidbit that I didn't know. And my last one was uh they started making the movie before World War II.
SPEAKER_00Oh, see, and that makes sense. It Conquer Spaniels, the 1940s, the most popular dog. And it was shelved for because of World War II.
SPEAKER_01They decided to stop making animated movies at that time to support the war effort. Yeah. And then afterwards, Roy Disney saw that it was on the back burner, and he started talking about it a lot to bring it back, to bring it back, and then he kind of brought it back into production. It became one of their one of their most popular movies. I think it was the first animated film to be filmed in CinemaScope. Okay. Which is a wide, wider version. They had to actually change, add more to the sides of the animation.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. To make it fit the screen. Oh, interesting.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, that those are my tidbits on Lay in the Train.
SPEAKER_00If you had asked me, I would have thought that this was made later because I remember it as a kid, but not as an old Disney movie. I thought it came out in theaters when I was a little kid.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00And it might have been re-released at some point.
SPEAKER_01I think I thought of that of quite a few Disney movies when I was a kid. I never thought of when it came out. Cinderella and Snow White look older.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. This one doesn't look the same kind of older. No.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. It's that classic great Disney animation though. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But it is about what, 15 years later after Snow White? 15, 16 years? Maybe. 39. I think that came out in 39.
SPEAKER_01Maybe. I think I have some other tidbits that are in the similarities and comparisons, but that's my main tidbits for the 1955 version.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01Do you want to talk the 2019 one
2019 Remake Choices And Rescue Dogs
SPEAKER_01a little bit?
SPEAKER_00Sure. Before we jump into that. Let me see if I have. What do you got? I don't know if I I did. Yeah, I didn't really do any tidbits of trivia.
SPEAKER_01Let's talk what I have. Okay. And then we'll go into whatever you got down.
SPEAKER_00My my weird comments of what the heck's going on there. Right. Yeah, that's that that'll be great.
SPEAKER_01Always expect that from you. The 2019 live action, they used real rescue dogs.
SPEAKER_00Oh, I did see that. For the entire movie. Because they did read all of the IMDB on the movies.
SPEAKER_01Of course you did. And Tramp was at a I forgot what state he was in, but it was in a kill shelter that he was in. He was about done. Yeah. But he was adopted after the.
SPEAKER_00They were all the dogs were adopted before the end of the movie.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So that was that's a really cool, that's a really cool uh tidbit. But and then also for for the original movie, no real place was named over where it was at. No. The setting. But it's believed to be Walt's hometown of Marsley, Missouri. Really?
SPEAKER_00I thought it was England because it was a lot of English accents.
SPEAKER_01I know, but that's just what they say, the inspiration of the town.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. Oh, yeah, that would make sense.
SPEAKER_01Right. And they could have melded a bunch of stuff in there when they were making it. But the new one was set in New Orleans.
SPEAKER_00I th I see I saw Savannah, Georgia. That's where they filmed it. Oh, but it's set in New Orleans. And I was thinking that too, because it had a Frog and the Prince little Tiana vibe going on. Yeah. Okay, that makes sense.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, Savannah, Georgia gave it more of that 1910s feel that they wanted for the movie. Yeah. So that's why it was filmed there. Disneyland opened one month after the 1955 version. Oh, okay. Skipping back to 1955. Yes. It came up in my 2019 thing, so I wrote it down later. And uh the spaghetti scene in the live action movie took three days to film. Oh. Because they couldn't figure out the noodles they kept breaking or too soft with the two dogs. Oh, how to make it work. And so the solution was an undyed, sugarless chicken broth soaked licorice. Oh. And the dogs ate it up and loved it. And they filmed it quickly after that.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, let's get some of your amazing tidbits or why the heck did that happen.
What Changed And Why It Works
SPEAKER_00So for the first one, now Marceline, late 1800s, I'm I'm assuming Victorian area era. Okay. And it made me watching that reminded me of when we did Apple Dumpling Gang. Okay. Even though, to this respect, that even though Apple Dumpling Gang was like probably 1800s when that was set, it had that Gen X feel of smoking with a kid in your arms. Right. Let the kids go wander through the mines all day on their own, that type of stuff. This one had the Victorian ideal of not giving a crap about your kid and just leaving your newborn with the crazy old aunt and her cats. So yeah, it was like, oh yeah, that seems like a very Victorian. Okay, let's leave the the newborn baby with crazy Aunt Sarah and let's go for a few days.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Which is funny because the new one, the 2019 version, she's a dog sitter. She's she's not watching the baby. Right. She's all excited because she's thinking she's gonna watch the baby, and they walked out with the baby. See, we came to our senses. It's like, don't leave your baby with crazy Aunt Sarah. Yeah, Karen Cat Lady. So the Cocker Spaniels, I was thinking it's and I used to, we used to own one when I was a kid. Okay. We had one, an English cocker, as opposed to the American cocker, which is displayed in the movie. You can tell by the differences in their face and whatnot. So I was like, they're the dog persona, though, of a high maintenance girlfriend.
SPEAKER_01Okay. Think about that. I get it.
SPEAKER_00I get it. Lady, she was just a high maintenance girlfriend. And Tramp, I don't think he ever really took that out of her. She plused him up. Oh, totally. Totally. Plused him up. She but she did not let herself be dragged down to his level. He did make her more worldly. Yes. He taught her a lot. As he got her almost shot chasing chickens. Hey, this will be fun.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's a it was a great uh great combo.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I also thought it was funny in the first one. There's a chihuahua, a bulldog, and a greyhound in the pound. Think about that now.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00They're not staying in a pound. Those a bulldog or a chihuahua, you know, those are getting snapped up instantly. They're not less than a week. Now, Greyhound, I would just think because they're probably fairly expensive, dog is my thought. But they're a little more niche as far as I think the type of person who wants a greyhound. And they really need a lot of space.
SPEAKER_01You can't just have a greyhound. I thought so. I looked into getting a greyhound years ago from the they when they retire them at the dog racing tree.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_01They used to adopt them. Yeah. And I was talking to them, but I just don't have the room. And they they wouldn't even talk to me. Yeah. Unless I have more anchorage. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I love them. Really? Yeah. Yeah. Something about them was really cool back then. I went and met a couple and I was younger. I was in my twenties.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I thought I was between that and a husky, gotten either.
SPEAKER_00I I had a friend who actually offered me when I was in high school purebred husky for free. That his dog had puppies or his two dogs. Yeah. And my parents said, No, you can't have a dog. If my sister had asked, she could have they would have, oh yeah, go ahead. Me, I asked. Nope, you're not getting a husky. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's funny. Yeah, my the reason I didn't get a husky was they like to they don't like to stay in a yard either. No. They like to dig and jump over fences. And they're loud. Yeah, they like to get out. So I ended up with a Dalmatian I had three Dalmatians.
SPEAKER_00And you really have to take care of years. Take care of their coats and a lot of grooming to a Husky. Right. You gotta blow out that winter coat. And yeah, there's they're high maintenance dog.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Thanks. So I had so that's why I ended up with uh Dalmatians. Thanks, Disney. Um we I grew up with a Dalmatian named Lady after the movie. You named her after the movie? No, my parents did. My par it's my dad's favorite Disney movie is Lay and the Tramp. My dad loves Tramp. He thinks he's the coolest dude and animated of all time. I could see that. Yeah, yeah. That being it's we had a female Dalmatian and we named her Lady. That's a double Disney, double Disney attack on the dog name. Dog breed and name, two different movies. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Two different movies. Yep. I did think it was interesting the dog fight scene. And they didn't show them actually fighting a whole lot. It was more the shadows of the fight. They completely took that out in the new one. It's stuff there was a lot of stuff in the old one that wasn't in the new one, including that dog fight. Where I did think it was funny where in the new one, Tramp, oh, why do you think she's wearing a muzzle? I like that scene. She's a psycho, she's a killer.
SPEAKER_01He played that cool to the dumb brawler dog. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So that that was a a good workout or a change. There were some good changes, I thought, for between the original and the second one.
SPEAKER_01That's why I brought up this topic for an episode because I was shocked. I just we were visiting my son and uh had a house that we're staying at that had the Disney app. It didn't have much, we didn't have much mini uh streaming services, it had Disney. I clicked it on one morning, put on this live action, and we ended up watching the whole thing. Okay, and laugh like crazy. I mean, I was so surprised at how much I liked the 2019 version.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so here's the thing so and am the Siamese cats.
Reworking The Cat Song Today
SPEAKER_00Want to talk about the song? Their Asian accents, okay, and then the song, and I understand it's problematic, but I thought it was interesting that we could see them reworking the song, but a Siamese cat, there's that's a breed of cat, a Siamese cat. That's true. And now the thing is they call them Siamese cats, but I don't know if they're from Siam, Thailand, or not. But they left the Scottish Terrier speaking Scottish in the second movie.
SPEAKER_01But it's all about perception and uh so I was I was nervous for that scene. I didn't think I'd like it because I love the original song for the original movie. Yeah, it's a catchy movie. Yeah, I love the new song. Yeah, it was well done.
SPEAKER_00They did a good job with redoing it and stuff.
SPEAKER_01That's when I decided I really liked this movie. When that scene was so good. It was a great scene. Yeah. They tore they tore up the whole house, but singing about destruction.
SPEAKER_00But the yeah. I guess Scottish people just you don't matter. Sorry, sorry, Scots.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we'll there's no uh yeah, we're not that fit. We'll get there.
SPEAKER_00I guess we'll get there where we'll get there where the Scottish everybody gets offended in King's.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we'll get there where the Scottish accent is offensive. We'll get there someday. We're just not there yet. Okay.
SPEAKER_00The best scene in the second movie though, okay Ken Jong as the doctor.
SPEAKER_01I knew you were gonna mention him.
SPEAKER_00As he's leaving, it was that was him. That was his character that he's in everything. And it was it was hilarious, just watching him as he's walking out. Good luck, dog. Yeah, but do you want to hold the no? I don't want to hold the baby. Yeah, cutest baby ever. I've been babies for 39 years. Yeah. Yours is the best one.
SPEAKER_01You're the best, best ever, cutest baby ever.
SPEAKER_00Goodbye. I'm gonna leave now. That was funny. So they did a good job with his character. I thought every scene they changed was win.
SPEAKER_01I don't think they changed anything for the the worse.
SPEAKER_00I know I have some differences here, but none are like uh none of it was it wasn't, I will say, they didn't change it and it turned into cringy woke.
SPEAKER_01No, it just turned into funny. It just out of humor. Yes. The writing was so po so on point, which uh it's too bad this couldn't be a theatrical release because it came out right when COVID was hitting in 2019. Yeah. And so it was a Disney Plus only release, but it had mixed reviews, the 2019 version. I think a lot of people are just down on Disney live action remakes. Yeah, but wasn't that one of the first ones that they did?
SPEAKER_00Maybe, maybe, but it was only on Disney Plus, so there's no Yeah, there was no box office or anything like that. I think that falls more into the category of people don't want you messing with old original Disney. It's like Country Bears walking out, and I hear that guy who sounded better before. No, this new Country Bears is incredible, it's great. The old one was funny, but in a I shouldn't be laughing at this kind of way. Yeah, yeah. It's this one was uh it was a good live action. They did a they did a really good job with this one. I'll definitely say that. Now they uh tramp being the womanizer, the man whore he was in the first one, completely wrote that out. He's more of just a loner in the second one. I did have that as one of my which differences, and that I was fine with that. It was gotta stay with the times, can't have an the dog is a womanizer, same way they can't be chasing the pirates, can't be chasing the ladies in the Pirates of the Caribbean. What else? I had another one.
SPEAKER_01I I love this. I love the spaghetti the spaghetti dinner scene in the live action one. Yes, it was better than it was so good. It was deep. The what's his name? The a I forgot the actor. F.
SPEAKER_00Marie Abram.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he's amazing. Yes. When he popped out, I thought he was gonna kick him out. I they're gonna change it because he was look so mad. Yeah, but then he joins them just like and it
Favorite Scenes And Core Themes
SPEAKER_01was it was great.
SPEAKER_00Because the first one, those two Italian guys, they were a little there was a little creepiness to him, and that was yeah, watching that, it was like, yeah, those guys are kind of creepy.
SPEAKER_01I loved when he walked in and said, Give me two of the meatball specials. And the lady of the lady says, I thought you said you were out of that. It's good enough for the dogs. Yeah, that was funny. Uh the themes are the same in the movies. Yes. This the themes of love, loyalty, class differences, and finding your family. Those are just entrenched in both movies, which is really cool. And all the main characters, they kept all the main characters the same. They didn't add a bunch of new characters in.
SPEAKER_00They didn't add a no, they kept them all the same. They okay, and this is another one. So sometimes they do the gender swap. So the Scottish Terrier. Um and I forgot what the new name was. That was one of the storylines I didn't like in the original that both the Bloodhound, so trusty and the Terrier were all like, look, we gotta wipe her up before we just gotta one of us. It's either me or you. And I thought that's didn't really care for that storyline. Yeah. And so switching the Scottish Terrier to a girl dog, it eliminated that from needing to be a storyline. It was the easiest way where that just Just wasn't gonna pop up. So I really I did like that because I thought that was just an odd storyline to throw in there. There being a bit of the jealousy with Tramp because oh, who's this third guy coming in? And we were gonna settle it between us. And yeah, that was just people aren't property. Totally. And that that's how it felt the first with the first round through, I would say.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, the last thing I have is that they portray the humans a little deeper. They went more into their stories. There were more people in the movies, and it's just set of two names you hardly saw.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, especially the Jim Darling and Deer. Yeah. Which I thought that was hilarious. They kept those names, but to a dog, her name's not Deer, and his name is not Jim Darling. It's their pet names for each other. It's like thinking of Dave and Asha and are the Pomeranian Rigby that they own. Well, you say mommy, and they know Rigby knows who mommy is. If I said Asha, he'd just look at me. You say daddy, he knows who daddy is. But if you say Dave, you just look at me. So I thought that was a really good way of writing that whole part of the movie. That this is what this is from a dog's perspective. So if they hear somebody referred to as this name, that is their name. She is Deer, yeah, and he is Jim Darling. So I just thought that attention to detail that was just a great Disney attention to detail that they do really well. Only other thing, but and we've got to talk about the dog catcher. But before that, the live action house, it to me it looked like the Christmas story house. Yeah. But in a better neighborhood.
SPEAKER_01And they had lots of good scenes with the snow falling. Yeah. Over the house. Yeah, it was really cool. Let's
The Dog Catcher As Comic Chaos
SPEAKER_01talk about the dog catcher.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so very it wasn't really even a part in the first one.
SPEAKER_01Who played him? He's a guy.
SPEAKER_00He's been in a bunch of stuff. He was, in fact, uh, whatever, the secret life of Walter Mitty. He was his assistant, uh, Ben Stiller's assistant in that movie. Anyway, I'm like, in the second one, who is this NCIS dog catcher who works 24-7? And then he comes up to their door in the middle of the night, knocks, they're about to go to bed, and he's knocking on the door, and he's like, It's like, what the heck are you doing? Knocking on my door in the middle of the night, trying to find a stray dog. It was goofy. And then he pushes them to the side, walks into their house, and tells them, Yeah, put some coffee on. He's like, Get the out of my house, you AO. What are you doing? So I just thought it was the now it was really funny the way that they wrote his character. But I just thought it was like, What? This is so exaggerated. And it because he's wanting to do a stakeout to wait for this dog. So he just barges into someone's. Do you have a warrant, sir, to a warrant to spy on this dog?
SPEAKER_01The actor's name is Adrian Martinez. Okay. Who played the dog catcher. And he hasn't been in he was in Severance, which that's what I remember him from, Severance. Okay. But I've seen it recently. The amateur. I saw that. He was in a bunch of, he's been in a lot of stuff, but Severance, he played one of the. Have you watched Severance?
SPEAKER_00I have not watched Severance.
SPEAKER_01He played one of the guys in the office that uh yeah, you have to watch the show. It's a deep, it would that's a whole thing, but he was one of the main characters of Severance the first couple seasons.
SPEAKER_00He's one of those guys that he's an office worker. He just really is. He's that office worker character who is just like a piece of furniture. He doesn't stick out in any way. He's a fly under the radar guy. Fired. Yeah. But he does a really great job with he was solved in this role. Yeah. But that's when he Walter Mitty played that same character. Yeah. The office guy, his assistant, had his lines and stuff. But yeah, did a great job. But this was probably a little different character, as he's a he's a cop. The dog catcher shows up everywhere. Shows up everywhere throughout the movie.
SPEAKER_01He just knows where tramp is at all times.
SPEAKER_00NCIS, yeah. Major crime scene investigation.
SPEAKER_01Secret spy, yeah, dog spy network. Yeah. I was so glad you liked the live action movie. I did. I didn't know. You never know.
Wrap-Up And What To Watch Next
SPEAKER_01We didn't talk about it until we sit until we sat down. No. Whether you liked it or not. I expressed my love for it last week. So if you haven't watched this, check out the 2019 live action version on Disney Plus. It's still there.
SPEAKER_00I think really the only thing that could possibly bother people is the them changing the cat song. Yeah, but if you do it well, which and they did it well, but that is the only thing I think people would have a problem with.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Between the old one, the old version.
SPEAKER_01That's like saying Tiana's sucks because Splash Mountain was better. Yeah. That that's not a reason Tiana sucks. Yeah. Because Tiana's doesn't suck. It doesn't suck. And Splas Mountain was a great ride. It was a great ride.
SPEAKER_00There's the Tiana's is a great ride. To me, they're both the same great ride. I actually like Tiana's story better. Because it's got a better story. It's got a story. Right. The Splas Mountain didn't necessarily have a it said, but it was such an old story, and you couldn't watch the movie anyway.
SPEAKER_01The Siamese cat song?
SPEAKER_00Different.
SPEAKER_01Still both good.
SPEAKER_00Yes. And they use, but yeah, the new ones also tabby cats or something.
SPEAKER_01And we're all and we've talked about this before. We are fans of upgrades. Yes. Layovers and upgrades. Which we should talk about layovers because there's lots of them in Disney. So we should talk that up in an upcoming episode. We should. Yeah. Because there's a whole bunch opened up this week. There's a lot going on right now.
SPEAKER_00Makes me catch up. Go so bad. We should make that might be have to be an upcoming episode. It should be. Okay. Hey, this is the first drink of the new year. It is. Yep.
